English Review:

When I first read the synopsis of this book I thought that it was going to be a retelling of Romeo and Juliet, adding a bit more of action and a little bit of magic... And even when that wasn't what I found within the pages of this book and there were some stuff I didn't like, this debut is something really good.

The story takes place in New York, in a future where the global warming has increase the water level, thus flooding the streets, and making the live on the outside unverable because of the high temperatures; I really liked that Theo Lawrence had used an idea that might actually happen in a few years if we keep contaminating the world, but what I really loved was the fact that in this book there aren't only normal humans, but there is another kind of powerful and more than human people, people that can make extraordinary things and have amazing, kick-ass powers, what I still don't know is if I should call them superheroes or witches and warlocks, because they were a little bit of both for me ;)

Theo's writting style is adictive, neat and descriptive, which helps make the book a fast and enjoyable reading, but if there's somenthing that made me not rate this book with a perfect score was the first part of the story (is divided in three), because it was like a weird mix between Gossip Girl (gross!) and a strange version of Romeo & Juliet (plus one), because I couldn't believe that there was going to be a love triangle, it just didn't feel right; but as the chapters went by and the mystery, the secrets, the betrayal, the action and the romance came to light I realized that this book was nothing la GG (Thank God for that one!) and that maybe it was a bit like Romeo & Juliet (without all the murder-suiced-full-of-dead-bodies scene), with all the forbidden and passionate love between the lead characters (and another thing I loved and was thankfull for was that there wasn't any insta love)

I liked the characters, even when Aria was gettin' on my nerves at beginning with all her naivety and her perfect life of gossip and clothes, I liked how she evolved and all the changes she went through because of her own choices; Hunter was a bit cheesy and had a lot of cliches going on with him, but I like him and I think I might had a bit of a crush on him.

Mystic City is a mind-blowing and interesting debut, and even when it doesn't has the best of the beginnings, it gets better with every page and every chapter you read, because the world that Theo Lawrence create is amazing and magical, and I just can't wait for the sequel.

¿Cómo que Gossip Girl = Asco? Jajajaja.
