English Review

To resist the charm of a book with a beautiful cover is almost impossible, which had granted me with a lot of let downs (some really ugly), but when a cover does match the beauty of the story within the pages of a book, it makes me feel so happy and lucky to have found such a book that all that I want to do is read that particular book over and over again, and that's what happened with Hooked, which, as its name says, got me hooked from the very beggining.

Contemporary romance became one of my favorite genres in the course of last year, which made me so eager to have my first read for the new year, and I can't think of a better book than this one to start with, because Liz Fichera's writting style is both atracting and light, simple and beautiful, and very enjoyable, because it leads you through the whole story with ease and let you know and connect with Fred and Ryan, two people that are so incredible different from each other, and then let you read all their thoughts, and if there's something I really love about an author's writting is the ability to tell a story from separate POV and, still, be able to give every character their own personality and never mix them up... I just love that!

The book has its romantic moments, and even when love isn’t everything in this story, I just loved how Fred and Ryan’s feelings start appearing and growing in a very slow motion, and how both start to notice these feelings and accepting them, because that made the story very real and since I don’t like love stories where the lead characters love each other in five minutes, I really enjoyed how Liz Fichera wrote the relationship between these two, every obstacle and every task bring them closer and closer, and all the drama that was worth it (seriously, it came the time when I really thought I would end up bald for all the drama). The other themes in the book: family, friends, heart-breaking decisions, fights, jealousy, and more DRAMA where accurate to the story, because it set everything in motion so Fred and Ryan came together and found new strength to keep their love alive.

And now, let’s get to the characters; I really like Fred, even before I read about her, her nickname made me laugh a lot but it were her confrontational toughs with herself that crack me up! I just love how she could be so innocent and sweet at the same time, and really felt horrible when everyone bullied her in the book, but I admired her strength to kept a straight face and prove to everyone she was good at golf and won’t let anyone get her down. And about Ryan, in the beginning I kind of despise him for everything that he did to Fred, but I irrevocably fell for him little by little, when I realize he didn’t mean to be an ass, he just didn’t knew the whole story, and after that, he became such a prince charming with Fred, protecting her and defending his feelings for her… I just couldn’t resist him! I will love this guy until the end!

Hooked is a beautiful and heart-warming book, an enjoyable tale, that tells a story that can happen to anyone, because is real and is actual, that counts with a lot of romantic moments, laugh-out-loud scenes, heart-wrenching drama and interesting facts about golf and native American culture. This is just a book you can’t miss, I highly recommend it to everyone!
